Check how much TDS a client should deduct on your payment — and what you actually receive in hand.
Freelancers, consultants, designers, developers. TDS deducted by the client is deposited against your PAN and appears in your Form 26AS / AIS — you can claim it while filing your return.
Clients (companies, LLPs, etc.) deduct TDS under 194J when paying a freelancer for professional services, generally when the payment crosses the threshold of ₹50,000 in a financial year (₹30,000 for some payment types under 194J).
No. TDS is advance tax collected on your behalf. It shows in your Form 26AS/AIS and is adjusted against your final income-tax liability when you file your return.
You can submit Form 15G/15H (where eligible) to request no TDS deduction, or claim a refund of the deducted TDS when filing your return.
Generally TDS is deducted on the value excluding GST, when GST is shown separately on the invoice. Confirm the treatment with your CA for your case.
